I finally found an internship after 4 months of searching! Starting Monday, I'll be working at Lehman Brothers in Washington DC doing healthcare equity research. It seems like the perfect job, combining my interests in healthcare an business.

Today, I moved into my house in College Park, MD where I'll be living for the summer. I'm pretty excited to be meeting new people, doing new things, and exploring the DC area. I'll be sure to write updates on my summer.

Done with Finals

Well, it's been quite a while since I last posted, as I have been extremely busy with school. Anyway, I just finished my last final today! It's been a very hectic week filled with five finals, interviews for internships, and a whole bunch of other things. The finals went pretty well for the most part, although Accounting was really difficult.
I'm going to be staying around Ann Arbor for the next few days to try to finalize my summer internship situation. I'm also going to be taking my MCAT classes this summer, and will take the exam in late August before school starts (kind of depressing to think I've got to start studying again in about a week). Right now, I'm just looking forward to a few days of much needed relaxation.

March!

I guess I haven't posted in a while and it's about time for an update. To start things off, spring break was amazing! I went down home to Naples, FL with several friends and got to chill on the beach and go boating in 80 degree weather for a whole week. Since we drove down and back, we also got the opportunity to visit several other schools: Auburn, Univ. of Florida, Univ. of Miami, and Clemson. It was really cool to see these other campuses.
Other than that, I've just been really busy with midterms. I took my last one this afternoon, so I'm finally done with that! They all went pretty well, and now I've got a few weeks before I have another exam! I'll get some time to watch a couple of March Madness games, which I can't wait for.
The internship search has unfortunately not been going so well. I've had a few interviews, but no internship as of yet. Hopefully I'll be able to land one in the coming weeks. It's all really stressful, writing all these cover letters, continuously networking with recruiters, and preparing for interviews.

Well, I think that's about it for now. I'll update if anything exciting comes up. Also, please feel free to leave comments. It's good to know that people are actually reading this!

Midterms, Internships, and Spring Break

School has been super hectic recently. There's been a slew of midterms, with three more coming up next week. Not fun.
Well, that aside, there's also the prospect of applying for summer internships. I'm not sure what I want to do after college, so I've sent out applications for all sorts of positions. Some of these include an accounting position with a local construction firm, a supply chain management position with the American Red Cross in Washington DC, and a drug research position with Merck. So far, the search has been relatively unsuccessful, but I do have several interviews coming up in early March.
Other than that, I'm just waiting for spring break. I'm planning on driving back home to sunny Naples, FL for the week with a few fraternity brothers. My last midterm is on Wednesday, and I'm planning on leaving early Friday morning. We're going to stop in Auburn and Gainesville for two nights in order to break up the lengthy drive.
That's about it for now. I'll have an update soon, probably after spring break when I know more about the summer internship situation.

Capital One Bowl

I just got back from the Capital One Bowl. That was probably the most amazing game I've ever been to! Going in, I didn't even think that we had a chance against Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators. But I figured that this might be the only chance I had to see a bowl game in the home state, so I went ahead and bought the tickets.
It was awesome to see so many loyal Michigan fans show up to the game. Granted, it was still predominately blue and orange, I think we made our presence felt. I also enjoyed the sportsmanship from both sides, making the entire gameday experience that much more enjoyable.
My faith in Michigan football has been restored. Now, I'm back in sunny Naples, FL, where it's 80 outside. What a difference from the 14 inches of snow in Ann Arbor! I'll be spending the next week and a half here, and then I'll be heading NORTH to Orlando to watch us play the Florida Gators in the Capital One Bowl.
It's so nice to be done with another semester of school. No worries for two weeks, no textbooks to read, no finals to study for. Heck, if I really try, I might not even have to pick up a pencil for two weeks. I'll be taking Bio 305 (Genetics), Chem 230 (Physical Chemistry), Econ 102 (Macroeconomics), Acc 272 (Financial Accounting II), OMS 301 (Business Statistics), and LHC 250 (Business Communication). It's not going to be easy though, with 18.5 credits, and several difficult classes, especially genetics, chemistry and accounting. However, I've always loved to be challenged.
I'm especially excited for Physical Chemistry. I always hated chemistry in high school, but my organic chemistry and biochemistry classes here were fascinating, despite verging on impossible. I fully expect PChem to be the same.

Right now, I'm just finishing up the school year, and classes are coming to an end in a week. Currently, I’m a sophomore doing joint degrees in Cellular, Molecular Biology (CMB) and Business Administration.
Just about everyone gives me awkward glances when I tell them I’m doing these two majors. People always ask why I would undertake two majors that have seemingly no correlation, and I really don’t have a good answer to be honest. I came to Michigan as a premed student, which is why I started off as a CMB major. However, experiences in the medical field have caused me to question that choice. So, when Business school applications rolled around last spring, I thought “Why not?” I figured I’d give it a try. Now, after three months of B-school classes, I’ve realized that it was a really good decision. The stuff I learn in these classes—teamwork, management, computer skills—can benefit me in just about any field I go into.
I guess that gives me a pretty interesting courseload: Accounting, Business Economics, Business Information Technology, Biochemistry, and Chinese III. I especially love Accounting and Biochemistry, even though they’re my hardest classes by far. Biochemistry is pretty demanding, and very boring at times, but other times it is actually really cool.
I also try to get involved around campus. Right now, I am a member of Chi Psi Fraternity, and have been elected treasurer for the coming school year. I also am actively involved in a Pre-med Honor Fraternity called Alpha Epsilon Delta, where I get to participate in a multitude of activities such as shadowing doctors, helping out at hospitals, and going on tours to various medical schools. This fall, I started volunteering in the ECMO research lab, working on extracorporeal life support, which is basically a method of providing organ support to patients whose heart and lungs are dysfunctional. This past summer, I got to work in the Chang Laboratory on protein degradation in yeast. At times, it was tedious, but at the same time, that was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. On Saturdays (except home football games of course), I volunteer at Sunrise Assisted Living, where I help take care of Alzheimer’s patients.
That’s a short introduction of my academic and extracurricular life. I’ll try to have more interesting posts in the future.
